100 Thousand Poets for Change Organizes Largest Poetry Event in History
Number of Participants Worldwide Growing Daily
600 events in 450 cities and 95 countries will take place on September 24 to promote environmental, social, and political change. Poets, writers, artists will create, perform and demonstrate in their communities, and decide their own specific area of focus for change within the framework of peace and sustainability, which founder Michael Rothenberg stated, “…is a major concern worldwide and the guiding principle for this global event.”

Arts in the Valley host Kim McMillon interviews UC Merced Professor Manuel Martin-Rodriguez, and poet Lucha Corpi about Ms. Corpi’s upcoming reading on Tuesday, September 20th (10:30-11:45), COB 265 (UC Merced). This reading is part of the Chicano/a Literature Series at the University of California, Merced.
Manuel Martin-Rodriguez is a full professor and founding faculty member at the University of California, Merced. Prior to joining UC Merced, Rodriguez taught at Texas A&M University, where he was Director of Hispanic Studies), the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where he directed the Roberto Hernández Center), Wayne State University, and Yale University.
LUCHA CORPI is a poet, novelist, and children’s book author. She has written three other mystery novels featuring Gloria Damasco: Black Widow’s Wardrobe (Arte Publico Press, 1999), Cactus Blood (Arte Publico Press, 1995) and Eulogy for a Brown Angel (Arte Publico Press, 1992). Crimson Moon (Arte Publico Press, 2004) introduces Brown Angel Investigations and detective Dora Saldana. She was a tenured teacher in the Oakland Public Schools Neighborhood Centers Program for over 30 years.
