The purpose of each annual Wellness Fair is to educate the public of the various alternative and holistic health care options we have available right here in the Central Valley.  Premier, local, alternative and holistic practitioners and product vendor booths are presented at each Fair.

The Wellness Fair also features multiple guest speakers who lecture on a variety of health and wellness topics throughout the day.

Tune into Arts in the Valley on Saturday and Sunday, January 21st and 22nd as host Kim McMillon interviews Faye Saxton the Director of Wellness Connections, and Judy Nelson on the 9th Annual Wellness Fair 2012 on Sunday, January 29th in Fresno, CA.  Judy Nelson, one of the fair speakers, will discuss Genetically Modified Organisms: Hidden Health Risks in Our Food.

Since 1996 Americans have been eating Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in their food without their knowledge or consent.  Scientific research repeatedly indicates that GMOs pose potentially serious health and environmental risks, yet our government continues to promote and support their proliferation.  During this talk, you will learn what GMOs are, how they are created and why, the potential health and environmental risks, and what you can do to protect yourself and the environment from them.  You have the right to know what you are eating so that you can make informed choices to protect your health.

Susan Griffin is a well-known writer and poet. Among her many books, A Chorus of Stones, was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Award, won the BABRA award in 1992 and was a NY Times Notable Book of the Year.  She is the co-editor of the anthology Transforming Terror, Remembering the Soul of the World to be published this spring by UC Press. The author of  Woman and NatureThe Book of the Courtesans, Wrestling with the Angel of Democracy, and the Emmy award winning play, Voices, she was  named by Utne reader as one of a hundred important visionaries for the new millennium. She has been awarded an NEA grant, a Macarthur Grant for Peace and International Cooperation and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her work, which has been translated into 17 languages, is taught in colleges and universities internationally.  She lectures widely in the United States and abroad, teaching at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Pacifica Graduate School, the Wright Institute and the University of California as well as privately at her home in Berkeley.  http://www.susangriffin.com
