Kim McMillon, the host of Arts in the Valley, interviews Jenelle Marie, the founder of the STD Project, and Jennie Lake, the author of The Book of AHA.

My name’s Jenelle Marie and I have an STD. *Hi, Jenelle.* For 14 years, I’ve lived with genital herpes – otherwise known as herpes simplex or simply, herpes (I’ve also had hpv, scabies and vaginitis). Want to know more about my experience? Read my STD Interview.
Having an STD has not hindered my love life, inhibited my ambition, or limited my friendships (I’ve been married, auditioned for American Idol, gone skydiving 3 times, been an auditor for a Big 4 accounting firm, ran a 25k, started a successful business, worked as a ‘carny’ on a fried veggie wagon, completed 2 degrees, etc.). Herpes, in short, has not stopped me from achieving anything or enjoying my life.
I am here to tell you, having an STD/STI does not have to stop you either.

The STD Project
http://www.thestdproject.com
Established in April of 2012 during STD Awareness Month, The STD Project is an award-winning independent website and progressive movement aimed at eradicating STD stigma by facilitating and encouraging awareness, education, and acceptance through story-telling and resource recommendations. We welcome all people and all thoughtful opinions regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, or experience with an STI/STD.
Through The STD Project, we post interviews with and the stories of those who have sexually transmitted infections or diseases, viewpoints from the people who have loved someone with a sexually transmitted infection or disease, as well as a plethora of news and resources related to STIs/STDs; testing, treatment, prevention, and more. By facilitating and encouraging awareness, education, and acceptance, we are taking steps toward modern-day prevention by advocating for conscientious and informed decisions.

Jennie Elizabeth Lake, an awakened individual, has overcome her own tumultuous story to save and bring healing to thousands of others once like her. As author, educator, and friend, Jennie is intrinsically able to successfully expound upon the often-subtle yet meaningful difference between our mind-made constructions, and what is real.

Her journey began when she received direct instruction from the likes of Gangaji, Byron Katie, Roger Mills, Larry Crane and many others — these are the world renown teachers that set the very foundation for the work she does now. She honors them by continuing the tradition of these teachings.

Jennie is currently CEO and Founder of United by Humanity (www.UnitedByHumanity.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating suffering by way of self-inquiry. Over the years she has received countless accolades from prominent people such as Senator Mark Leno, with whom she participated with to create services for the underserved; she has also instructed at several universities.
