Kim McMillon, the host of Arts in the Valley, interviews Jenelle Marie, the founder of the STD Project, and Jennie Lake, the author of The Book of AHA.

My name’s Jenelle Marie and I have an STD. *Hi, Jenelle.* For 14 years, I’ve lived with genital herpes – otherwise known as herpes simplex or simply, herpes (I’ve also had hpv, scabies and vaginitis). Want to know more about my experience? Read my STD Interview.
Having an STD has not hindered my love life, inhibited my ambition, or limited my friendships (I’ve been married, auditioned for American Idol, gone skydiving 3 times, been an auditor for a Big 4 accounting firm, ran a 25k, started a successful business, worked as a ‘carny’ on a fried veggie wagon, completed 2 degrees, etc.). Herpes, in short, has not stopped me from achieving anything or enjoying my life.
I am here to tell you, having an STD/STI does not have to stop you either.

The STD Project
http://www.thestdproject.com
Established in April of 2012 during STD Awareness Month, The STD Project is an award-winning independent website and progressive movement aimed at eradicating STD stigma by facilitating and encouraging awareness, education, and acceptance through story-telling and resource recommendations. We welcome all people and all thoughtful opinions regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, or experience with an STI/STD.
Through The STD Project, we post interviews with and the stories of those who have sexually transmitted infections or diseases, viewpoints from the people who have loved someone with a sexually transmitted infection or disease, as well as a plethora of news and resources related to STIs/STDs; testing, treatment, prevention, and more. By facilitating and encouraging awareness, education, and acceptance, we are taking steps toward modern-day prevention by advocating for conscientious and informed decisions.

Jennie Elizabeth Lake, an awakened individual, has overcome her own tumultuous story to save and bring healing to thousands of others once like her. As author, educator, and friend, Jennie is intrinsically able to successfully expound upon the often-subtle yet meaningful difference between our mind-made constructions, and what is real.

Her journey began when she received direct instruction from the likes of Gangaji, Byron Katie, Roger Mills, Larry Crane and many others — these are the world renown teachers that set the very foundation for the work she does now. She honors them by continuing the tradition of these teachings.

Jennie is currently CEO and Founder of United by Humanity (www.UnitedByHumanity.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating suffering by way of self-inquiry. Over the years she has received countless accolades from prominent people such as Senator Mark Leno, with whom she participated with to create services for the underserved; she has also instructed at several universities.

About the Book Rabbit Stories

Subatomic particles. String. Knots. The water in London, San Francisco, Tar Creek. A coy Spider. The Dance of DNA. Chestnut Man’s kiss. Songs made of strawberry soda. These are glimpses of the complex world in which a Tsalagi girl/woman lives. Named “Rabbit Food” after a wild rose, the girl is accompanied through life by irreverent guardian and teacher Rabbit, “a creature of trick and pleasure.” Kim Shuck’s collection is tenderly constructed, finely woven in and out of Rabbit Food’s lifetime as girl, young woman, new mother, and mature artist. Rabbit Stories winds through waters layered with dream and memory, loops back around time with a wise/cracking humor. I couldn’t put these stories down. They’re singing in me now; it feels as if the DNA in my cells has been transformed by, as Rabbit would say, “a joy in craft and artifact.” Brava! —Deborah A. Miranda, author of Bad Indians: A Tribal Memoir.

“I must have danced out of my mother’s womb,” says Prema, who began formal ballet training at the age of three. She soon abandoned the formalities to dance on her own, like her idol Isadora Duncan, as a personal expression in nature. She dipped in and out of western expressions of dance but did not return to formal classes until she went to India in 1976 and became a student of Ramani Ranjan Jena, a master of the Odissi style of Classical Indian Temple Dance.

During the six years she spent in India she worked as an editor for the Theosophical Society, immersing herself in the study of comparative religion. To compliment her dance training she studied Classical Indian Music, She studied Sanskrit to deepen her understanding of the Hindu Culture.

In 1983 she settled in Hawaii where she became a student of the Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Lama Sonam Tenzin. He encouraged her to continue her sacred dance work which culminated in the creation of the Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara, a group ritual based on the profound mind training practices of Tibetan Buddhism.

She has traveled the world since 1986 teaching this dance and the accompanying meditations. She has been invited to present the ritual to many of the most accomplished Tibetan Lamas including His Holiness the Dalai Lama who proclaimed the dance, “wonderful”.

Arts in the Valley host Kim McMillon interviews filmmaker Lenore Norrgard on her film American Ubuntu.

To listen to the interview with Lenore Norrgard, click onto the link:lenore-2

Below is a description of her film

AMERICAN UBUNTU

“Because we are, I am”

How would you like to walk into a movie theater and see, on the screen, a drama that features people like you — people who are working to create a new world from the ashes of the old — and are succeeding?

Would you like to see an aging white man who, in his struggle to love, faces a past in which he was traumatized by racism — and who, in turn, hurt others with the same foul tool — and now is determined to make the past right?

Would you like to see a young artist who carries on the original, progressive tradition of hip hop, before it was hijacked by the cynical, exploitive music industry? A hip hop artist who also is an activist, and a shaman — and creates a brave new blend of these three practices to heal the world?

Would you like to see a former Black Panther, a widower who remains devoted to his visionary wife, long dead? A man who is a steadfast, loving father to his stepdaughter — and accepts her lesbianism?

Would you like to enter into a vibrant, sustainable and visionary communal village founded by profoundly diverse 1970s radicals — that still is thriving and growing after 20 years?

Welcome to my film – AMERICAN UBUNTU!

Showing in a theater near you – NOT.

That is to say, not YET.

Born of September 11

In the days following September 11, I curled up in a fetal position on my single futon in the kitchen-bedroom of my tiny apartment in San Francisco, asking myself, How do I respond to this, as a healer, as a radical, and as an artist?

How do we get out of this nightmare?

As I continued to repeat these questions to myself, day after day, I fell into a reverie, in which new characters, and the beginnings of a new story, were seeded in my imagination.

There are no new stories, some insist.

But I dare — like Adesimba, my hip hop shaman character — to blend my diverse practices and experiences, and thereby create something new.

How is it new? It is a healing story for the battered U.S. psyche.

Now, you know we need that!

What is a healing story?

A healing story is one in which we accompany characters on their journey, and through experiencing their struggles, setbacks and victories, our own wounded consciousness vicariously heals.

The tradition of healing through stories is as old as storytelling itself. In fact, healing was the original purpose of story making.

Shamans, our original healers, are our oldest storytellers. By conceiving and sharing a story of healing with a wounded patient, a template is created for the patient’s wound actually to heal — thus setting the process in motion.

So, telling a healing story is not new.

What is new about AMERICAN UBUNTU is that it creates a template for healing not only individual psyches, but for healing the collective consciousness of the American people.

A Healing Story for America

Together with an aging protagonist, we make the journey of facing his youth, where not only did he receive racist wounds, but he inflicted them, as well.

We experience his regret about his past actions, and his determination to make things right — a determination that grows out of a profound love that is stronger than his wounds.

We experience the obstacles, internal and external, his determination helps him to navigate. And we experience the liberation and healing that his love-based determination achieves — for himself, and for others.

Hence, this new, healing template: We can choose to face our past — both as individuals, and as a people — and, with the commitment to making the past right, we have the power to heal and transform, both ourselves and others.

Not only as individuals, but as a nation.

Accompanying the protagonist on his journey, we also experience another possible way we could choose to live in the U.S.: Connected with the Earth and with Spirit; in a sustainable, collective economy that cares for everyone; a self-governed society of equals, where conflict is engaged openly and in a context of love.

And so, another template is laid down: Namely, that it is possible for Americans to live in peace — not only with one another, but with the rest of the Earth, and with other peoples.

It takes a village to make this film

As I’ve begun looking for a producer and backers to bring this story to the screen, a friend commented, “It’s going to take a village to make this film.”

Yes. After all, ubuntu is a Zulu word meaning, Because we are, I am — and therein lies the film’s healing message.

Do you want to be part of the AMERICAN UBUNTU-making village?

Can you help with any of the following:

Donate a design for an AMERICAN UBUNTU web site?

Help me connect with filmmaker Todd Haynes?

Help me connect with Christine Vachon, Kasi Lemmons, Charles Burnett, John Sayles, Oprah Winfrey, Andrea Arnold, or Ang Lee?

Provide development funds?

Connect me with a visionary producer with a strong track record?

Connect me with a movie distribution genius?

Invest in the film, or raise money for the film?

Something else?

I welcome your contribution, and would love to give you a credit in my film!

Lenore Norrgard, MA, CSC, has been creating new stories for decades, and has practiced filmmaking since 1998. She has practiced shamanic healing and teaching for nearly 20 years, and is known for pioneering the application of shamanic practices in healing social wounds.

Premiere of The Gathering Space with Renata Santorelli, Saturday, September 1, 2012, 1480 KYOS AM

Psychic Medium Renata Santorelli premieres her new show The Gathering Space on 1480 KYOS on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 9 pm. The Gathering Space will be broadcast every other Saturday.  The goal of this show is to bring hope and healing to those that have survived trauma bought on by the death of a love one through suicide, or where there are unresolved issues related to the death of a love one.  There will be a contest in which two winners will receive a free on-air reading.  You would need to just send your name, and phone number, and be willing to do an air reading.  More information about the contest will be forthcoming.

To listen to Psychic Medium Renata Santorelli, click onto the link:the gathering space 9-1-12

Renata is a psychic medium, a motivational speaker, a spiritual counselor and a radio show host. Her desire is to continue to inspire others with messages of hope and inspiration through her private consultation sessions, her personal writings… and workshops and lectures, all of which tell of her varied and often difficult life experiences.

Unfortunately like so many others, Renata has experienced various levels of abuse while growing up. She was taken away from her family when she was twelve due to the abuse; she was made a ward of the state of California and lived in a state run girls’ home in Los Angeles, from the ages of twelve to eighteen. her spiritual journey has steadfastly led her to a place of healing and peace as a result of sharing her life’s story with thousands of others. Many other people have also endured what seemed to be impossible life experiences and circumstances.

Renata has been communicating with those in the afterlife since the age of three…

The spiritual world was not something her family understood… This was a confusing time for her, because while what she was hearing and seeing was very real, she learned that her ability was not something she could share with most of her family without severe repercussions at times. She began internalizing what she saw, heard or felt – for fear of ridicule. She was exposed to various religious beliefs, both from her family and from the religious girl’s home where she lived during her teen years. With these beliefs imposed upon her, she was again left with the impression that what she saw, heard and felt from her contact with those on the other side was not a gift, but ‘a curse’. It was not until her third near death experience in 1997 that she began to realize that maybe what she thought was her biggest curse in life might be a gift. But she was still keeping her abilities a secret at that time. In 1998, once again her life would forever be changed. It was during her physical healing process from an automobile accident that her beloved brother took his own life. After his passing, she fell into a deep depression. Then, one-night months after his passing, she had a visit from him. During this visit, he told her that it was now time for her to begin using her abilities and gifts to help others. His visit transformed her life forever.

Thus began her search for the true meaning of the Higher Power that was called ‘God’.

Renata Santorelli worked with the Windbridge Institute for Applied Research in Human Potential.  The Institute is concerned with asking, “What can we do with the potential that exists within our bodies, minds, and spirits?” Can we heal each other? Ourselves? Can we affect events and physical reality with our thoughts? Can we know things before they happen? Are we connected to each other? To the planet? Can we communicate with our loved ones who have passed?

Who indeed is Metatron? I have been asked this by so many. I have surfed the net and its a mindfield of information and I would urge you to read and find what resonates for you. But ultimately Metatron is a healing Archangel, the holder of the keys to humanity, the flower of life, sacred Geometry and much much more.

He has been around for millennia and it has been said that he sits closest to the Creator, whomever that may be whether it is God, Jesus or energy, whichever is your belief system. He is the overseer of the energy grids of the Universe, the holder of the keys to humanity and life as we know it. He was present at the creation of the Universe, an overseeing energy light that was able to amend and fix as the world was created, as planets were created, as humanity and life was born.

Life is ever changing, ever evolving. If we look briefly at how we are born, we grow, we grow in height, in shape, in size, our mind also grows, then we reach adulthood and the growing stops, although as we get older we may shrink, our organs and bodies constantly changing. As children our energy is vibrant, as our bodies grow and we become adults. Our blueprint is set from before birth. What we will grow into, but how we look after ourselves and how we think has a great affect on how we grow and how we become…

Metatron holds the keys to the blueprint of  our very soul’s. His main work is to connect and transform the low frequencies that are in and around us, so that our vibrations are raised and we become the true light that we should be. Life often gets in the way, and issues, behaviours, experiences cloud our judgement, mind and behaviour. We literally suffocate our soul’s light.

Metatron again holds the keys, to uplifting us and moving us out of the darkness. He is an Archangel from the highest dimensions. He is able to move in and out of the Universe and reach anywhere in the Universe. He is omnipresent.  He comes to transform us and to bring us into the light.

If we look at ourselves as energy for a second. What frequency are you resonating at? how bright is your light? if your light is dark then you will feel low, if your light is bright, your frequency and energy vibrating high then you will feel uplifted.

Belief, Trust, Surrender – the main key ingredients of how we can work with Metatron. If we call upon him to assist us, we must be ready for great changes to take place. His work is to bring Mankind into a higher frequency. Releasing negativity, releasing drama, ego and victim mentallity. He knows you, he was there when you were created. He holds your blueprint in his hands. He is able, therefore, to reset and realign you to your true frequency, that which was before you became what you are now.

To end…how do I see Metatron is what I get asked so often. To answer this as honestly as I can, to me he is a radiant light, a moving light, a strong, high frequency energy…..he can have many faces, that which we wish to see in this 3 Dimensional living…but for me he is an energy, the highest of frequencies…and he brings comfort and movement and transformations on the highest levels…He is omnipresent, he is all that is, and he divinely guides and moves us to where we need to be. So for me he doesn’t have a face, a 3 dimensional visual/image, for me he is pure light energy, of the highest order. I hope this helps you. He will work with you all uniquely and this is the remarkable journey with Metatron.

Artist Leigh Hilbert’s Statement for Island of Hawaii images:

I primarily take pictures to honor and celebrate the natural beauty and wonders of this planet, including the creatures we share her with. It is my hope that each photo I take represents a small piece of this Big Island that I love. It gives me further pleasure to share my images with you.

The Island of Hawaii, known as the Big Island, has thirteen identifiable ecosystems ranging from starkly beautiful high altitude volcanic cones and lush jungles on one side to bone-dry cactus hills on the other. Seashores of rough lava rock interspersed with sandy beaches surround the island and its coastline is growing as molten lava surges from crater fissures and pumps into the sea. The exotic diversity of the Big Island’s ecology, history and culture leads to endless exciting photographic possibilities. It is a place of great passion and inspiration.

For more than three decades Leigh’s award winning photos have been published in a variety of newspapers, magazines and books in the US, Canada, and Europe. His photos have also been displayed in numerous galleries; the first being in Sun Valley Idaho in 1972. Leigh taught courses in photography at a community college for two years.

In 1998 Leigh moved to the Island of Hawaii and has been exploring its diverse landscapes, creating a growing collection of incredible photographs that he loves to share with everyone. In Hawaii, besides appearing in Big Island art galleries and shows, his images have been used in leading TV news stories worldwide and have graced the front covers of local newspapers and he has published a limited edition lava book.

In the past few years Leigh has become known as a high definition videographer of Hawaii Island’s Kilauea lava flows and is working on his second feature length molten lava movie. When the lava is flowing outside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Leigh provides much of the active movie footage used by local television and internet news, as well as national news outlets and also writes an in-depth daily lava flow blog that is read worldwide and included in the newest edition of Lonely Planet Big Island.

Leigh resides at Cape Kumukahi, Kapoho, on the Island of Hawaii.

When lava is flowing outside the national park, I do a bi-weekly lava field report for Big Island Video News, one sample of this can be watched here: http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2011/01/19/video-lava-burns-third-kalapana-home-in-six-months/

AND on this TV news site you can watch both news and raw video of lava taking out Gary Sleaik home on July 25th, 2010: http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12876736 AND also Jean Olson’s home being lost to molten lava on November 27th, 2010 here> http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/global/category.asp?c=6743&clipid=5334121&topvideocatno=91610&autostart=true>

On June 4th, 2010 I completed a feature length documentary film that closely covers a spectacular April to May 2010 surface flow of lava. Gallery link here: http://www.leigh-hilbert-photography.com/Professional/My-new-feature-length-molten/12463082_QqFwd#892716227_JKbqV

I am currently working on a new feature length lava movie.
