Since 2002, the Merced ShakespeareFest has performed one or two Shakespeare plays each summer on the stage of the Merced Open Air Theater in Applegate Park under the helm of founder and director Heike Hambley. Again she is getting ready to audition and then direct the comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” which was the very first play to be performed in 2002.

Currently Heike is also rehearsing at Playhouse Merced in “Lysistrata” which opened on May 6. She collaborates with Hatchwork Theater Project putting on performances of small edgy pieces in summer and fall.

About the Merced Shakespeare Festival:
Merced’s Summer Shakespeare festival is fun for the whole family and it is free of charge. It happens during daylight hours in the beautiful green Applegate Park in Merced, California.

Quality, fast-paced performances with a minimal set in an abridged version, usually 90 minutes long are the order of the day!

Brush up your Shakespeare,
Start quoting him now.
Brush up your Shakespeare
And the women you will wow.
If your goil is a Washington Heights dream
Treat the kid to “A Midsummer Night Dream.”
If she fights when her clothes you are mussing,
What are clothes? “Much Ado About Nussing.”
If she says your behavior is heinous
Kick her right in the “Coriolanus.”
Brush up your Shakespeare

And they’ll all kowtow,
And they’ll all kowtow.

The Frugal Goddess Annabel Ascher
If you are feeling squeezed by this tough economy and aren’t sure how you are going to make ends meet, you will find practical advice from today’s guest, The Frugal Goddess. If you are on solid ground but just have a bad feeling about the excess spending of the past, you will find inspiration from this practical Goddess. The Frugal Goddess gives you the straight info on avoiding wasteful spending and saving money so you can live a happier, freer, more prosperous life.

The Frugal Goddess is Annabel Ascher. Annabel lives in Sonoma County wine country. This area was rural and relatively inexpensive when she moved there in 1978, but over the years in has become one of the most expensive areas in the country to live. She realized she either had to re-prioritize her spending or leave the beautiful area where she had built a life. So she did a methodical study of frugality and in the process created a system that will work for anyone. Based on the concept of frugal abundance, her system will help you get more use and pleasure out of what you actually have right now.

In addition to this blog she also writes for the examiner.com as the frugal living reporter for San Francisco. Her book, The Frugal Goddess Speaks, can be pre-ordered on her website, http://frugalplanet.wordpress.com/ The expected release date is late May 2011.
